Join us for a (pre) Mother's Day Ladies Night: Pit-fired Ceramic Hearts Workshop

Shape, seal, and fire your own sculptural ceramic hearts in this hands-on Ladies Night event that explores the atmospheric alchemy of pit-firing. This workshop blends creativity, technique, and the thrill of fired surprises. A perfect blend of technique and creative play that results in one-of-a-kind pieces kissed by smoke, flame, and natural materials. Perfect for beginners and seasoned artists alike.

In the first part of this workshop, you will learn to hand-build beautifully rounded, closed-form ceramic hearts. Guided instruction by the resident artists of nearby Takaezu Studio will lead you through the steps to construct smooth, personalized dimensional forms, sealing your intentions inside. We will cover shaping, paddling, burnishing and discuss the process of bisque firing as well as the history of pit-firing.

You're then invited back to the vineyard on Friday, May 8th, for "part two": the newly bisqued (fired once to 1700°F) hearts will be prepared for firing in the cauldrons right on our Lawn. You'll view examples of pit-fired works, discuss additives and wrapping and begin the firing to produce rich, organically patterned surfaces.

Please note, we invite you to create your ceramic heart with us on April 24th even if you cannot make it back on Friday, May 8th. While both dates offer a fully immersive experience from creation to finished product, your heart will be fired by the Takaezu team and ready for pick up at a later date.
